About this deal

The recipient of numerous style awards, Alexa has won the prestigious British Style Award (voted for by the public) three years in a row. In It, her first book, the global fashion-trendsetter Alexa Chung shares her own very personal inspirations, musings and eclectic sense of style. Chung does not address her relationship with her heritage or biculturality at any other stage, which if rewritten today, would have most likely been handled differently. With wit, charm and a refreshingly down-to-earth attitude, this gorgeously-designed full-colour book is a must-have for anyone who loves fashion, music and just about everything Alexa Chung. For a start, there's nothing "Last Year" about it - it's so unbelievably now, it's hard to believe the ink has even had chance to dry properly.

It was a lot of word vomit and random pictures thrown in that made me think of Tumblr and those quirky blogs of troubled teens who think they're special (news flash, you're like everyone else). You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. But I especially loved the fact they showed women could become celebrities without having any talent.Having read Man Repeller by Leandra Medine just prior to this, I can say that Alexa's efforts pale in comparison. In fairness, one thing that can't be disputed is that "global trendsetter" Alexa Chung is a British 21st-century "It" girl, but, without meaning to be pedantic, what "It" is it? Die-hard fans will no doubt embrace this slim, whimsical offering, or delight in receiving it as a gift. Anyway, it's very short and kind of reads like a few months of someone's Tumblr blog, way more than I expected, so it turned out to be very nostalgic feeling indeed. Back then, the lack of interest from the media and fashion industries to explore gender fluidity and conventions was not yet on IT´s agenda.

Fellow followers of her Twitter and Instagram feeds will know that she’s witty and charmingly self-deprecating.Chung celebrates the fruition of her influence within the fashion and the entertainment realm, revealing the icons that fed her mind, and closet. Not quite a style guide, and not quite a coffee table tome, the book will be a collection of the presenter's inspirations and musings - featuring her favourite photographs and drawings. I found, as I was reading it, more to be like a small art-project which people are interested in not because of its one-of-a-kindness but because it contains the soul of someone famous which, to be honest, everyone is eager to peek into. The venom directed at Chung is breathtaking, all the more so because it has a strong whiff of what could only be described as malign political correctness. Scattered between all these short extracts you will find many pictures Alexa has taken over the years.

And, despite her (self-confessed) habit of dating boys in bands, she’s clearly a girl’s girl who, I imagine, would be enormous fun on a night out. I'm really, really unhappy" the first thing that came up was: "Go to the Caribbean and get wasted with your really cool friends for three weeks. Some reviewers appear to be morally offended that there isn't more substance to It but I don't see any reason not to enjoy this book if you know what you're getting into. e.: being there when they need cool people to be there, wearing clothes and just talking about whatever.

And when you pass the book onto your grandkids, that will probably be the bit when they finally grasp something of Chung's appeal. The edgy corners of Tumblr in 2013 consisted of the “I-was-born-in-the-wrong-era” groupies whose inclinations included “indie” icons such as The Neighborhood, The Arctic Monkeys, Lana del Rey, quotes from Lolita, and American Apparel outfits. Writing wouldn't be what she is best known for, but she pulls it off very well with her charming personality laced throughout this book. The current questioning within media and pop culture concerning “intersectionality” and representation, has allowed current generations to question and transcend the given thought structure, stereotypes, and our (lacking) actions to address systemic flaws. No part of this excerpt may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the publisher.

For the record, Chung includes Mick Jagger, The Beatles, Anna Karina and Edie Sedgwick as some of her style icons. Nobody goes through life without having their heart broken and one day you’ll wake up and it will be okay. Heartbreak will force you to strike up conversation with anyone who will listen and who might be able to tell you it’s going to be okay. IT gained immediate success and buzz all over the internet and fashion circles as it was getting talked about and reviewed, however, negative critiques were alluding that the book was vain, made no sense, and was “a missed opportunity ”, according to the Guardian´s Barbara Ellen. Some of the main motifs in IT consist of photo booth picture strips with no context at all, point-and-shoot images (nowadays extremely popular and loved online), doodles occupying one to two pages, lists, her oyster card scan, and oversaturated photos of writings in the sand that read “fuck you” and “the end” towards, you guessed it, the end of the book.

It however doesn't take very long to read so isn't a long in deep book about her life more rambles of information she shares about her! But anyway it’s weird to be so critical because it is for teens from a specific time and even when I try to get myself in the mindset of the time period/ age regression I can’t do it! Alexa Chung is an international style icon and she is the co-host of the Netflix series, Next in Fashion.
