Long story short, and this was—looking back—an incredibly long story (sorry): Georgie, All Along is an absolutely phenomenal book. Sometimes you have to keep going back to the same points, the same fights, the same apologies, and keep trying until you know how to progress away from them differently.

Levi, in a complicated situation, feels like he doesn't deserve happiness or the love of Georgie, who is chaotic, messy, smart, funny, and beautiful. But this quiet, grouchy man is more than just his reputation, and he offers to help Georgie with her quest. The author delivers a heartfelt romance with occasional spicy scenes that tackles some deeper themes if one reads it in its entirety. Gallo identifies nine archetypes of leaders, peers, or direct reports you might run into in the workplace. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.Though, the girl used to have a diamond on her left ring finger, and this season she doesn’t, so who knows, maybe that’s reignited his determination.

Side-note: please go read her earlier, swoony Beginner’s Luck series, as well as Love Lettering and Love at First. Their attraction and their romance was a delicious slow-burn, so expertly written by Clayborn it had me sighing and swooning at all the right moments.But I loved the small moments where Georgie and Levi mess up with each other, and extend each other the grace to go back and try the interaction differently. Now that she’s in her late twenties and feeling directionless, Georgie decides to use this diary as a guide to figuring out what she truly wants for her life.

So, Georgie decides to head home to small-town Virginia, to house sit for her traveling parents, in hopes of regrouping and getting back to the basics while she’s at it. But with manic depression and so many other ills, la Keyes has kind-of found the same spirit as evinced by Braver Than Britain, Occasionally by Spadge Whittaker, which is an off-kilter 'further reading' recommendation that deserves a look. For example, in meetings leaders can pre-emptively address interruptions from Know-it-Alls by saying things like “Please let me finish this thought before sharing. Initially Bel and later Levi, help her go through her list and what follows is a beautiful journey of love, friendship and self-acceptance.

It isn’t for people with red hair, girls, small people, twins, people with glasses or people who like tunnels. Georgie has been an assistant in LA for years and it has kept her from thinking of what she wants in her life. This is a book that is not afraid to be messy sometimes and—like its heroine—is only the more beautiful for it.
